Texas has a chance to disrupt TCU’s perfect season and get one foot in the door of the...

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers rolls out to throw against Kansas State during the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, in Manhattan, Kan. AUSTIN — By beating Kansas State last week, Texas took back control of its own destiny. If they keep on winning, they’ll end up playing for a Big 12 championship at AT&T Stadium on Dec. 4.

Texas hasn’t defeated a top-five opponent at Royal-Memorial Stadium since 1999, when Mack Brown’s Longhorns handed third-ranked Nebraska its only loss of the season. Almost a quarter-century later, Sarkisian’s Longhorns have designs on ruining another team’s perfect season. Since replacing injured redshirt freshman Chandler Morris in the second half of TCU’s opener, Duggan has completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,407 yards with 24 touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 282 yards and four scores.

Four of Texas’ tackles — Moro Ojomo, Byron Murphy II, Keondre Coburn and T’Vondre Sweat — rank among the 15 highest-graded Power Five interior linemen, per Pro Football Focus. And those four, along with linebackers Jaylan Ford and DeMarvion Overshown and an improved group of edge defenders, are the key to stopping a TCU offense averaging 219.7 rushing yards per game.

“I know he wants to play and at the same time we’re going to do what’s best for Quentin and certainly long term,” Dykes said Tuesday, per 247Sports.
