Dick Grayson's Nightwing finally fulfills his lifelong destiny as a supervillain, with his murder of Batman earning him a haunting new costume. Before Batman, Dick Grayson was secretly being trained to become an assassin for the villainous Court of Owls. The death of his parents and Bruce Wayne adopting Dick threw a wrench into these plans, but now as Dick faces his darkest nightmare, fans get a glimpse at who he could have been.

His shift towards darkness is represented in jaw-dropping cover art from Francesco Mattina, which shows Dick in the sort of owl-like costume he would have been awarded as an agent of the Court of Owls.

Nightwing's Nightmare Unleashes His Greatest Fears Close In a major retcon to Nightwing's acrobat past, DC revealed that Haly's Circus was a front for the Court of Owls, allowing them to hide their next generation of assassins in plain sight. Earlier generations of Dick's family fulfilled the same role, and he was meant to become the latest Talon, only to be saved from this fate by Batman.
Nightwing's Nightmare Self Is a Twisted Talon Dark versions of heroes are always a favorite with fans, so hopefully readers will get to see Nightwing take on the dark double from Mattina's cover. With a feathered cowl and arm guards, ominously glowing eskrima sticks, and a skull-like face under his mask, this Nightwing is a truly terrifying force - and if Knight Terrors: Nightwing #2 follows the path set by other tie-in issues, one who will very soon prowl the streets of the real world.
