Nigerian comedian and skit maker, the Macaroni, born Adebowale Adedayo, has urged the Nigerian police to release #ENDSARS 2020 protesters that are still in
The actor and activist made the call when he led a peaceful walk-in memory of the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre victims yesterday in Lagos.
Speaking to the media during the walk, he said “We are here to honour the dead, to honour the lives of those that were lost on October 20, 2020. I want to use this opportunity to call for the unconditional release of all those who are still unjustly imprisoned. There are still some protesters who have been in prison since 2020. Lawyers have been on the case everyday but till now they are still there.
Speaking further, the actor stated why he and other fellow activists are continuing the peaceful protest, because they want to see improvements in the nation in their lifetime.“Some of us are still here because we love this country so much and we don’t want this country to burn. We want things to be better in our generation. That is why we always do this so that people never forget. We all deserve better.
Macaroni has been active activist since the 2020 #ENDSARS Protest, alongside others like musician and activist, Falz, and Bring Back Our Girls convener, Aisha Yesufu, and is one of the notable faces behind the march, which sought to end police brutality in Nigeria. He was also among those arrested and brutalized at the first memorial gathering in 2021.
