Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios sparked outrage in Malaysia after describing his mother's childhood home as a 'pure slum city' in a recent interview. Kyrgios's comments, shared on TikTok, have been met with disbelief by Malaysians who point out his mother's royal lineage. Kyrgios's mother, Nurlaila Kyrgios, was born in Gombak, Malaysia, and is the granddaughter of a former Sultan's cousin. She reportedly renounced her royal title and moved to Australia in her 20s.
Malaysia ns are currently shooting virtual daggers at Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios after something he said about his Malaysia n mother’s childhood.
Nick went on to explain that people tend to underestimate his achievements as a tennis player, but then he remembers that his mother “grew up in, like, a wooden shack” and his Greek father “came by boat”. According to Mamamia, Nick’s mother is Gombak-born Nurlaila Kyrgios, whose grandfather’s cousin was the Sultan of a *Malaysian state. This makes her, by birth, a princess of that state.
