BBC Wales is given exclusive access as advanced paramedics strive to treat patients at home.
By Owain ClarkeAn advanced paramedic has spoken of spending hours resuscitating a patient alone with no ambulance backup.Up to 70% fewer people need to be taken to hospital when responded to by an advanced paramedic, compared to traditional crews.
"I remember being with a patient not so long ago who had a suspected infection. He turned out to be septic and I had to stay on my own, resuscitating them for many hours, asking for immediate backup, but there was no ambulance crew to come.Paramedics describe job as soul destroying But - after talking to the patient - instead of calling for an ambulance, Mr Lewis phoned a team of health and care professionals based in Llanelli.Carwyn Lewis and other health and care professionals are working together to treat as many patients as possible outside of hospitals
They work together to assess calls and discuss how to use their different skills to prevent people from having to go to hospital, or help get them discharged more quickly.Indeg Jameson, a community physiotherapist, said: "We're sitting here together and bouncing off ideas. We're learning off each other every day.
