A red alert means rotational brownouts could occur.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines raised the red alert over the Luzon grid on Monday, May 31 – the first time it has done so since June 2019.The NGCP said the red alert will be effective from 2 pm to 4 pm. Demand is expected to peak at 11,514 megawatts , narrowing the gap between supplies to 11,729 MW.

The NGCP also raised a yellow alert for the periods before and after the red alert – from 11 am to 2 pm, and from 4 pm to 5 pm. A yellow alert does not necessarily mean power outages.Earlier, the DOE said it was
