Newtown High School’s Nighthawks won the state championship amid commemorations of the mass shooting that took the lives of 26 people, including 20 children, exactly seven years earlier
Newtown High School’s Nighthawks defeated the Darien Blue Wave by 13-7 in the division for the state’s largest high schools. On the final play of the game, a senior receiver on the Newtown team caught a 36-yard pass and ran into the end zone as time.
