Filipino-American wingman Chris Newsome has primed himself to be one of Gilas interim coach Tim Cone's main defensive players in the 19th Asian Games men's basketball in Hangzhou, China.
' real tough but that's part of my job. I take pride in playing defense, and coach Tim is a defensive minded coach and he definitely trusted me with that job and I'm up to the challenge regardless of who it is,' Newsome told One Sports, following Gilas' 87-72 triumph over Thailand on Thursday as the national squad improved to 2-0 in group play.
'Ty lamb had a crazy start but that's his game, for me I just try to stay out of foul trouble early on in the game so I can play big minutes in the second half and play defense when it really counts,' added the 33-year-old former Ateneo standout.Newsome managed to stay out of foul trouble, limiting Lamb to just eight points in the last two quarters, while Gilas turned on the heat in that same stretch en route to the victory.
