News Corp boss says regulatory pressure is already shifting the dial for traditional media companies | ColinJKruger
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has declared that global regulatory scrutiny of digital companies like Google and Facebook had already sparked a significant shift in the relationship between those platforms and traditional media.
There is still work to be done. This includes the regulatory scrutiny of privacy concerns as well as what Mr Thomson described as an "opaque advertising market" which he described as a virtual monopoly.According to News Corp, a consequence of that is that more advertisers are seeing how dysfunctional that market is and are seeking "association with high quality content and we will no doubt be beneficiary of that.
The government launched a consultation process and will provide its final response to the digital platforms report by the end of the year.Mr Thomson also told investors the company was in talks to sell News America Marketing after impairments against the advertising business helped drag the media giant to a $US227 million first quarter loss.
