News Corp Australia’s executive chairman Michael Miller wrote to staff: “I encourage you to try ChatGPT for yourself.”

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has asked its Australian employees to give ChatGPT a go, tasking an AI Working Group to explore how artificial intelligence can add “high-value opportunities” across its consumer, finance, editorial and tech divisions.

ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot trained on all the information on the internet until September 2021,News Corp Australia has encouraged staff to try ChatGPT. Media organisations use forms of artificial intelligence and algorithmic selection regularly – to personalise which news stories are shown to readers, for example.Mr Miller said Jules Delany, News Corp Australia’s chief technology officer, was leading an AI Working Group that would explore “10 new high-value opportunity areas for AI”. Mr Delany spoke at an internal meeting on Tuesday about the technology.
