The newly-repaired Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex (JEMSC) was reopened to the public in time to serve as venue for some activities during this week’s celebration of the 86th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga or Zamboanga City Charter Day.
ZAMBOANGA CITY — The newly-repaired Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex was reopened to the public in time to serve as venue for some activities during this week’s celebration of the 86th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga or Zamboanga City Charter Day.
During the opening program, Mayor John Dalipe invited athletes and fitness enthusiasts to make use of the grandstand’s facilities which are available at reasonable rates.The grandstand will become the venue for several activities of the Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga to be celebrated on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Among the activities to be held at the grandstand are the Charter Day’s opening program, the Paralympic Games on Feb. 23, the grand civic military parade and seal competition. The grandstand gained significance when it was used as an evacuation center for thousands of victims of the 2013 Zamboanga siege.
The facility underwent rehabilitation from March 2016 to January 2019. It was closed again to give way for the repair of its rubberized oval track.
