Surveillance video showed a woman get out of a car, grab a black bag and toss it into the dumpster.

HOBBS, N.M. – An 18-year-old in New Mexico is facing charges after police said she admitted she put her newborn son in the garbage., officers responded to reports of an infant in a dumpster around 8 p.m. Friday. Through their investigation, police estimate the infant had been there for about six hours.

A woman removed the baby from a black bag and held him to keep him warm while a man called authorities. According to police, investigators were able to get surveillance video that appears to show the woman putting the baby in the trash. Detectives were able to identify and track down the owner of the car seen in the video. They went to Alexis Avila’s home, where her parents said she was sleeping.
