NEWARK – A 20-year-old Newark man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly hit one police officer with his vehicle and led others in a lengthy pursuit earlier this week, police said.
The pursuit lasted about 25 minutes and covered 17 miles. The man appeared to hit three other vehicles during the chase, causing damage but no injuries, according to police. “While deploying the spike strip, the suspect intentionally turned and drove his vehicle toward the Newark officer, striking the officer” police said.The pursuit finally ended when an officer with another law enforcement agency used a “pursuit intervention technique,” or PIT maneuver, to disable the man’s vehicle, according to police.
