Former United States president Donald Trump has been found guilty of fraud in a civil case bought against his company, the Trump Organisation, by the state of New York.
In a ruling handed down on Tuesday, Judge Arthur Engoron found Trump had"repeatedly" overstated his wealth and the value of his assets, including his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Manhattan's Trump Tower and a number of golf courses and other office buildings.
"In defendants' world, rent-regulated apartments are worth the same as unregulated apartments; restricted land is worth the same as unrestricted land; restrictions can evaporate into thin air," he said.Judge Arthur Engoron found Trump had"repeatedly" overstated his wealth and the value of his assets, including his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Manhattan's Trump Tower and a number of golf courses and other office buildings.
The former president's lawyers, meanwhile, had argued that the case should instead be thrown out, a request which was denied by Judge Engoron. Trump himself has frequently attacked the case and Ms James, calling it a"witch hunt" and accused the Attorney General, who is a Democrat, of bias.
