New York is 'ready, willing and able' to work with pro sports for games without spectators; Texas open to approving events as early as May 31.
The governors of three of the most prominent states for professional sports all expressed optimism Monday that they could be ready to host games in the near future.
In his daily coronavirus briefing, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said he's encouraging his state's pro teams to plan to play games without fans. "Hockey, basketball, baseball, football -- whoever can reopen -- we're a ready, willing and able partner," he said.-- home of the NHL's Sabres and NFL's Bills. The city has met the state's coronavirus containment goals to allow it to begin Phase 1 of reopening its economy on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, California governor Gavin Newsom said at his daily news conference Monday that pro sports could move forward"the first week or so of June without spectators" if the state can maintain its encouraging trend lines.
