A new clip from StarTrekLowerDecks teases Boimler’s holodeck movie sequel. StarTrekDay
A new clip from Star Trek: Lower Decks released during the annual Star Trek Day shows a holodeck movie sequel with Ensign Brad Boimler. Ever since The Next Generation, Star Trek episodes featured on the holodeck have become mainstays of the franchise. They offer alternate stories that couldn't be told otherwise. Star Trek: Lower Decks already took advantage of this in season 1, episode 9 "Crisis Point" where Boimler was a reluctant participant in a holodeck movie.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In the episode, Boimler has created a holodeck program that exactly replicates the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos in order to prepare for an interview with Captain Freeman. Instead of allowing Boimler to continue with his plan, Ensign Beckett Mariner alters the parameters of the program and turns it into a Star Trek movie the main characters can interact with.
While in the first "Crisis Point" episode, Boimler was reluctant to take part in the movie, he's now an active participant. His wish fulfillment holodeck movie finds him as the Captain of his own ship. Throughout Star Trek: Lower Decks, Boimler has longed for a chance to Captain a ship and move up in the ranks of Starfleet, so it makes sense this will be explored in the episode. What isn't seen in the clip is what role Boimler's Star Trek: Lower Deck's fellow Ensigns are playing in the movie. The first movie found Boimler on the opposite side of Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford as they overtook the Cerritos. Considering Boimler has shown a disregard for those around him in the past to get where he wants, it'll be interesting to see how he acts when he's finally in command.
