The Cabinet Budget Review Committee approved $499.85 million to be given to the Transport and Main Roads Department for camera initiatives, with 39 full-time staff to be funded. However, Transport customer service centres were not as lucky. The committee rejected a $129.56 million proposal to fund 150 staff to resource customer service centres. The government says any money that is raised from traffic cameras by law has to be reinvested in traffic safety.
