New recall poll shows Gavin Newsom's win could be landslide victory

The recall election has seemed to increasingly tilt in the governor's favor over the final month before voting.

In PPIC's 2018 gubernatorial poll, Newsom had an 11-point lead over John Cox, but he went on to win by a much larger margin, 23 points.

The PPIC's latest survey also indicates Newsom is doing better than he was in March, when its polling found that 56 percent of voters would vote"no" on a recall, compared with the current 58 percent. Newsom's support ahead of the recall election may be driven by his response to the coronavirus pandemic, which was named by voters as the top issue facing California.
