When 22-year-old Dieter Horvat suffered a horrific skateboarding accident his family prepared for the worst.Survivors are encouraged to come together and share their ICU experiencesAfter being hit by a car while skate boarding at night, the young musician was admitted to intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital .

He was placed in an induced coma as he battled a brain injury, a broken ankle, collar bone, wrist and a shattered face. His father Karl Horvat said to help him deal with his family's trauma he sat in the ICU and wrote his son a farewell speech. "I stood at the end of the bed and I rehearsed my farewell speech to him which also included thanking the staff of the ICU unit for their efforts and for their attempt to throw him lifelines," Mr Horvat said.Following a gruelling recovery which included voice therapy, physiotherapy and brain injury rehabilitation, Mr Horvat has managed to overcome his physical injuries.
