MELAKA: This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri is supposed to be a joyous occasion for new Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali (pic), where he hopes to be closer to the community by hosting a gathering in a traditional setting, with delicious food and evergreen Raya songs at his home in Alor Gajah.
Unfortunately, his mark of appreciation to the people has to be put on hold this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In these difficult times, I need to focus on reviving the tourism industry that has been badly affected apart from extending assistance to the affected groups. “This year, it’s a totally different scenario. I spent most of my time helping those who can’t celebrate due to the pandemic, ” he said, adding that thousands of families here would also be holding low-key celebrations and the need to observe social distancing rules.
