Intel's next generation of gaming-focussed processors may be landing sooner than expected with the latest rumor pointing at an October launch for so-called Raptor Lake...

Intel was due to launch its Meteor Lake range of desktop processors around the end of the year, but rumors have been rife for months that these have been delayed and that another generation based on its current Raptor Lake processors will launch instead, likely with higher frequencies than the current 13th Gen CPUs.

This brings both good and bad news. On the plus side, owners of Intel LGA1700 socket motherboards can look forward to another generation of processors and an extended upgrade path, which was meant to end with current 13th Gen CPUs.... [+]Even better is that any LGA1700 motherboard should be compatible with the new 14th Gen processors, albeit with a BIOS update, so owners of older 600-series chipsets such as Z690 or B660 will hopefully enjoy full compatibility.
