The Illuminati will soon be returning to the Marvel Universe, and one of the publisher’s most underrated super geniuses will be joining them. One of Marvel’s most controversial teams, the Illuminati meet in the shadows, working to protect Earth from a variety of threats. This November, Thanos sets his sights on the Illuminati in the first issue of his new ongoing - and Marvel has revealed one of their smartest characters is joining the team’s ranks.

In the series, the Mad Titan has returned to Earth on a mission of conquest - and it falls on the Illuminati to stop him. The team, disbanded for years, reforms, with Emma Frost and the Blue Marvel joining Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Mister Fantastic.
Blue Marvel Joins the Illuminati While the Blue Marvel’s in-universe history is long, stretching back to the early 1960s, he did not make his first appearance until 2008, in Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel #1. The Blue Marvel, real name Adam Brashear, was a research scientist working on an antimatter reactor, which he hoped to use as a source of clean energy.
However, Blue Marvel recently learned of an unprecedented threat to Marvel's reality known as the Enigma. It's possible that this discovery has changed his mind, and that he needs the Illuminati to help begin preparing a counter-force. Thanos will also see the Illuminati learn a secret about the Mad Titan - something he's willing to attack them over - so this time, Blue Marvel may be willing to work in secrecy if there's immediate threat to anyone who knows the truth.
Illuminati vs Thanos Is a Clash of the Gods Regardless of Blue Marvel’s reasons for joining the Illuminati, he will make an excellent addition. In addition to serving as a much-needed voice of reason, his powers and genius-level intellect make him the ideal member. The Blue Marvel is one of the publisher’s strongest characters, capable of going toe to toe with heavy hitters such as Hyperion.
