PUTRAJAYA: Newly-named Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador will take charge of the force for two years, starting May 4.

In a statement, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the 60-year-old Abdul Hamid was a capable candidate to lead the force.

"The years of experience under his belt will guide Abdul Hamid, as he shoulders this new responsibility," he said.Muhyiddin also thanked outgoing IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi, who retires on May 4, for his service after being appointed IGP in 2017. On Wednesday , Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced Abdul Hamid's appointment at the Labour Day celebrations here, saying that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had signed the appointment letter.
