A man has died when it is believed he was hit by a vehicle on a property in regional Victoria. 7NEWS

The 52-year-old victim was enjoying a night drinking with friends around a bonfire in a paddock just off Fyansford-Gheringhap Rd before tragedy struck.

“The three males are all known to each other and were spending time together,” Detective Sergeant Darren Williams said on Sunday.Police are working to piece together the moments that unfolded next.Police at the scene in Stonehaven, west of Geelong.The driver then drove off but is unclear if he was trying to get help.The driver’s family told 7NEWS the men have been friends for more than 20 years and believe the incident was a tragic accident.
