"Hamas insists for that reason that we not be there, and for that reason, I insist that we be there," he said. A spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubaida, also announced on Monday that the group has issued new instructions to guards on how to handle hostages if Israeli forces approach their locations in Gaza.
