Despite complaints from residents, the demolition of Eagle St Pier to make way for Waterfront Brisbane will not slow down, with developer Dexus exercising its legal right to carry on with its plans. Read more about the complaints lodged and the plans:

But the demolition of Eagle Street Pier to make way for Waterfront Brisbane will not slow down, with developer Dexus exercising its legal right to carry on with its plans.Neighbouring Riparian Plaza, a mixed-use development that is home to some of Brisbane’s most affluent inner-city residents, took issue with the Dexus development and appealed against its approval in the Planning and Environment Court.

In seeking leave to appeal, solicitor Mark Cowan, for Riverside Development, said use of that easement had not been consented. “The $2.5 billion project will transform the Eagle Street riverfront into a world-class precinct for the people of Brisbane and the businesses that will work there,” he said in a written statement.

In her letter, Russo said Waterfront Brisbane would overdevelop the site and was “not adequately separated” from Riparian Plaza.“Given the position of the development in the epicentre of activity within Brisbane, located on the pier in a time-honoured locality, such a DA should be reviewed to be held to a higher assessment criterion reflective of its importance to our city landscape,” she wrote.
