A neighbour of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin 's parents testified in the Sessions Court that she had never seen the autistic child playing at the playground of Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai , before or on the day he went missing on December 5, 2023. Rashidah Rajali, 37, stated that in her 10 years of living in the apartment, she had never witnessed Zayn Rayyan playing outside or interacting with her children.
She explained that her children frequently played at the playground in the evenings, and she always accompanied them. Despite this, she had never seen Zayn Rayyan there. Moreover, she mentioned that her three children often rode bicycles along the corridor, but she had never seen Zayn Rayyan playing there either, even though they lived on the same floor. This testimony emerged during the seventh day of the trial involving Zayn Rayyan's parents, Ismanira Abdul Manaf and Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, who are facing charges of neglect. Another witness, former investigating officer Inspector Nina Syamimi Syamsuddin, testified that during her recorded statement, Ismanira indicated that upon returning home, Zayn Rayyan refused to go inside because he wanted to play on the swing. According to Nina Syamimi, Ismanira stated that she was climbing the stairs while the child was walking behind her. However, when she turned around after no longer hearing his footsteps, he was gone. Nina Syamimi explained that at the time of the incident, Ismanira claimed to have been holding shopping bags in both hands. Upon realising she couldn't hear her child's footsteps, she placed the bags on the stairs, turned around, and discovered that Zayn Rayyan was missing. She then searched around Block R until 1 pm before contacting her husband to inform him of the situation. Rashidah Rajali further recounted encountering Ismanira twice on December 5. Firstly, around 12.15 pm, while she was heading downstairs to send her eldest child to school, she bumped into Ismanira going up. At that time, Ismanira was wearing a black headscarf, a white blouse and either black palazzo pants or a skirt. She appeared downcast, and they did not speak. Later, around 12.35 pm, Rashidah encountered Ismanira again when she returned home after picking up her other two children from school. At this point, Ismanira was coming down from the first floor, while Rashidah was going up from the ground floor. Rashidah mentioned that her husband had called to inquire about their children and whether they had eaten, informing her that Zayn Rayyan was missing. She observed that Ismanira's attire had changed, donning a dark-patterned headscarf, and her expression was devoid of any emotion. They did not engage in conversation
