Nearly 45,000 flood evacuees in Johor

MORE than 40,000 people were still affected by the floods in Johor as at 2pm today, while the situation in Pahang and Malacca slightly improved with several temporary relief centres closed and victims allowed to go home. , the number of evacuees still sheltering at TRCs dropped slightly from 45,218 to 44,934 following the closure of one TRC at SK Kahang Batu 28, Kluang.
According to the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat, there are 173 TRCs still operating in six districts in the state, with Batu Pahat still the most severely affected with 38,135 evacuees, followed by Muar , Tangkak Segamat , Mersing and Kluang . Seven rivers in the state are still at danger levels, including Sungai Batu Pahat at Bekok Dam, which is currently at 19.8m, Sungai Muar in Bukit Kepong at 4.59m, and Sungai Bekok in Yong Peng at 2.93m., the DMC secretariat said only 677 evacuees remained at five TRCs in the Rompin this afternoon compared with 1,804 evacuees at 12 TRCs this morning.
The level of Sungai Keratong in the district dropped to the alert level from its earlier danger level., the DMC secretariat said the number of evacuees in Jasin declined to 442 from 116 families this afternoon. They are housed at five TRCs. – Bernama, March 10, 2023.
