Almost 100 people have crashed or been involved in collisions during driving tests in the past two years. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) reported 52 crashes during driving tests in the first 10 months of 2023, with nine resulting in personal injuries. Last year, there were 46 crashes during tests, leading to injuries in 14 cases. Despite the incidents, the RSA stated that no claims for compensation or legal bills have arisen from these crashes. The authority emphasized that all test candidates are fully insured, and any claims are managed through their third-party motor insurance.

It said there was a single case over the past two years where a member of staff had been involved in a crash while working. This had resulted in a repair bill of €3,478 but no legal or compensation costs had been incurred by the authority in 2023 or 2024.
