The new SSP will be housed alongside new sports science and sports medicine facilities and national training centres for several key sports, making it the new home of Team Singapore, declared PM Wong, adding that this will allow student-athletes to “study and train, together with the senior athletes”.
Its successful alumni include Olympians such as Asian Games gold medal-winning sprinter Shanti Pereira, fencer Amita Berthier and former swimmer Tao Li. Ser, who is currently in a joint diploma in business studies programme offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic and SSP, said: “The overall experience of student-athletes will be better with new facilities, more opportunities, convenient access to a wider range of resources and support, and integration with the wider sporting family.”
