The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has convicted 201 drug dealers within one year in Delta State. Delta State’s NDLEA Commander of Narcotics, Abubakar Wada, who disclosed this at a press conference in Ogwashi Uku, yesterday, said 229 cases were still pending in court, while 85 hectares of Cannabis sativa farms were destroyed within the period.
He gave the break down of the exhibits seized as follows: Cannabis sativa, two tons, 377kg, 658g; Cocaine: 0.26485kg; Cannabis seeds: 21.5086kg; Heroin: 0.5824kg; Meth: 0.88017kg; Tramadol: 97.968kg; Swinol /Rohypnol: 14.6318kg; Broma/Diazepam: 17.8837kg; Molly: 0.3147kg; Co-Codamol: 0.355kg; mixtures of Cannabis Sativa/Gin: 130.95L; Codeine: 1962.6L; Pentazocine 6.27L; Tramadol injection: 0.02L and Diazepam Injection: 0.536L.
According to him, the command’s actions were in line with this year’s United Nations Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Wada said the command was poised to reduce drug abuse in the state, even as the drug demand reduction unit counselled 630 drug dependent persons within the period under review.
He said 11 drug dependent persons admitted for rehabilitation had been discharged after successful rehabilitation and reintegration into the society, while three drug dependent persons were still undergoing rehabilitation.
