The outfielder crushed the ball in 14 games with the low Class A Fredericksburg Nationals.

Washington is also promoting third baseman Yohandy Morales and outfielder Andrew Pinckney from Fredericksburg to the high Class A Wilmington Blue Rocks. Morales, 21, was their second-round pick out of the University of Miami. Pinckney, 22, was their fourth-round pick out of the University of Alabama. While Morales didn’t homer in Fredericksburg, he logged a .390 average and 1.019 OPS in 18 games. Pinckney finished his time in low A with three homers, six doubles and six steals in 17 games.

Until further notice, Crews is the one to watch most closely. Over the weekend, he hit one of his five homers for Fredericksburg. He has six of his 24 RBI with the team. He even added a diving catch in center. In Harrisburg, Crews could share a lineup with Wood, Hassell and third baseman Brady House — not to mention infielder Trey Lipscomb and outfielder Jacob Young. When team officials talk about all of the talent in their system, these are the first players they are referencing.

If the Nationals do keep Wood, Hassell and Young in Harrisburg, it will be interesting to see how they split up reps in the outfield. Crews, Wood and Hassell III are top prospects, which means they will be treated accordingly. Yet Young, a seventh-round pick in 2021, has emerged as a potential contributor. Across 52 games with the Senators, he has an .805 OPS and 17 steals, plus a high contact rate that has limited his strikeouts.

In any case, Crews’s quick rise could lead to other promotions. Too many intriguing outfielders is not a bad problem to have.
