CLEVELAND, Ohio — A tornado with wind speeds up to 90 mph briefly touched down Tuesday in Huron County, the National Weather Service has confirmed.
The EF1 tornado touched down at about 6:38 p.m. along Sand Hill Road near Monroeville, the NWS says. It traveled about four-tenths of a mile before ending at 6:39 p.m. Two trees near Sand Hill Road were knocked down by the high winds and two grain bins were picked up and dropped about 200 yards away. The tornado, which was about 50 yards wide, traveled across a field and knocked down a large pine tree, then dissipated, the NWS says.An EF1 tornado typically has winds between 86 to 110 mph. The strongest tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale is an EF5, which has winds exceeding 200 mph.
