NASCAR’s Gander Truck Series is roughly analogous to baseball’s double-A level, in which drivers race primarily in 3,200 lb. V8-fitted pickup trucks. The Truck Series also tends to be a feeder for the second-tier Xfinity Series and also draws some drivers from top-flight Monster Cup Series as part-time participants But the Truck Series also counts some of its own past champions—such as Erik Jones, Austin Dillon and Christopher Bell—among current top racers now.
Recently, I spoke by phone with Decker about her past competitions, her driving style and her outlook of participating in NASCAR in 2020. Natalie Decker: Definitely, it’s a lot different, because of the body shape, and trucks punch a much bigger hole in the air. From mile and a half you can tell, and especially at super speedways, when you’re in the draft they just suck up so much faster. I’ve really enjoyed it so far and last year was my first season .
