Nancy Pelosi pours cold water on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested the Green New Deal touted by her Democratic colleague Represesntative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is too broad and unfocused to be successful in Congress at a time when climate change needs “focused, determined, decision-making.”
Ocasio-Cortez was also involved with a sit-in at Pelosi’s office in November, before she entered Congress, organized by campaigners from the Sunrise Movement to demand more action on climate change. She also said: “You have to make decisions that you’re going to reach certain goals, and some of our goals we think are achievable. That’s why public opinion is so important.”
President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, who is a White House advisor, criticized the Green New Deal in an interview with Fox News earlier this week, claiming Americans do not like handouts, such as a guaranteed job or income.
