.RepNancyMace gets into fiery exchange with activist during hearing about extremist rhetoric
Mace had the exchange with Harvard Law School clinical instructor Alejandra Caraballo, who had tweeted that people should"accost" Supreme Court justices in the aftermath of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, during a hearing for the House Oversight and Reform Committee in which the committee asked multiple witnesses to speak about extreme rhetoric on social media.“The 6 justices who overturned Roe should never know peace again.
If you’re gonna be a hypocrite who advocates for violence online, you probably shouldn’t do it testifying in my committee… https://t.co/2vQq2Q2qu1In her questioning, Mace discussed how she has been accosted in public due to extremist rhetoric. She then asked Caraballo if she stood by the comments she had previously made.
Caraballo did not answer the question directly and was interrupted by Mace, who asked,"It is yes or no? Do you believe your rhetoric is a threat to democracy when you’re calling to accost a branch of government, the Supreme Court?”In her response to Mace, Caraballo said she believed her words were not being presented with proper context. Mace struck back by mentioning the assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh in June.
Mace, who serves on the House Oversight and Reform Committee, has previewed that the committee will look to put any witness"on the table" for subpoenas for an investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings during the next Congress.
