Najib: I didn’t file police reports on forgeries of my signature in 1MDB docs to avoid seen as intimidating witnesses
Testifying in his own defence in his 1MDB trial where the government-owned company’s RM2 billion allegedly entered his personal bank accounts, Najib also indicated he wanted to avoid being seen as intimidating prosecution witnesses or to face potential contempt of court action. “In any case, I’m also aware that any police report could be misconstrued as intimidating the witness, and there was the problem that happened too, an individual who lodged a police report and he was cited for contempt of court,” Najib said today.to say that he did not actually sign certain 1MDB documents, despite having claimed that his signature was forged on these documents.
Today, Najib’s lead defence lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah questioned him about his previous denial of intimidating 1MDB’s auditor KPMG to sign off on the company’s 2013 financial statement, and asked whether it was in Najib’s character to intimidate people.

Najib denies sending ex-officer on 'secret mission' to bail out 1MDBDatuk Seri Najib Razak, former Malaysian prime minister, denied sending his ex-officer, Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin, to China in 2016 on a 'secret mission' to help debt-ridden 1MDB. During the RM2.28 billion 1MDB trial, Najib claimed that it was 'ridiculous' to think China could have solved 1MDB's problems and such a move would have faced international condemnation. He stated that Amhari's trip was for reconnaissance regarding potential infrastructure projects with China, not to seek financial assistance. The prosecution questioned Najib about Amhari's subsequent trip to Abu Dhabi, where he met with Mubadala Investment Co CEO Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak to resolve 1MDB's disputes with International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC). Najib insisted that Amhari was representing him, not 1MDB, in these matters.
