PEKAN: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has dismissed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s support for an independent candidate in the Chini by-election.
Najib, who is Pekan MP, said Dr Mahathir’s support had not inspired confidence among Chini folk to vote for the independent candidate.
“Chini folk, including the Orang Asli community, are also smart. So what Dr Mahathir said is totally useless,” he said after going on the campaign trail with Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Sharim Md Zain in Kampung Orang Asli Tasik Mentiga here yesterday. He also expressed his personal support for Tengku Zainul and called on Chini voters to grant him victory.“He went to campaign in the Cameron Highlands by-election but he did not come down here. He only made a video,” he added.
The odds are in Barisan’s favour to win the by-election, judging by the results of the last general election and the support from PAS this time around.
