Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak began reading his 525-page witness statement in his 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial today, marking his first day testifying as his own defence witness. Najib, 71, walked to the witness stand with a walking aid and took his oath, starting his defence after six years since he was charged with power abuse and money laundering involving RM2 billion of 1MDB funds.
The statement was prepared while Najib was in prison, and his defence team faced significant time constraints under 'trying conditions'
