Moms Helping Moms, founded in 2011, provides baby essentials, as well as menstrual supplies, to women across New Jersey.
Not long ago, the 19-year-old, who is the mother to a 2-year-old boy, considered dropping out of school. She thought she didn’t have an option; working full-time would be necessary in order to pay for her son’s essentials. She did not drop out, though, and is on track to graduate in June.
'Moms Helping Moms has helped me with diapers that I couldn’t provide,' said Alexandra, a senior at Plainfield High School. 'It was stressful and I was about to drop out.'Moms Helping Moms, founded in 2011, today provides baby essentials, as well as menstrual supplies, to women statewide.
Moms Helping Moms received nonprofit status in 2013, and in 2018 began to build a network of community service partners. Today, the organization operates out of a warehouse in Somerset County, has eight part-time people on staff and 400 volunteers. “My mom grew up in a third world country,” said Antoine, who works at the organization’s warehouse three days a week. “She cut up sheets for diapers; I know what it is like to be in a big family with a lot of need. This was a great opportunity for me to help.
