The seven-day average for confirmed positive tests was 1,521 on Thursday, a 22% increase from a week ago and a 29% decrease from a month ago.

New Jersey’s rate of transmission on Thursday was 0.91, up from 0.89 on Tuesday. A transmission rate below 1 is an indication that the outbreak is declining, since each new case is leading to less than one additional case.

The CDC deems 12 counties to be “medium” for community levels: Sussex, Morris, Warren, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Ocean, Burlington, Atlantic, Camden, Gloucester, Salem and Cape May. There are 804 patients with confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases reported at 69 of the state’s 71 hospitals as of Thursday. Of those hospitalized, 83 are in intensive care and 33 are on ventilators.

The CDC considers positivity rates above 10% to be “high.” The positivity rate is substantially lower than its peak of 40.83% on Jan. 1 during the height of the omicron variant.New Jersey has reported 2.29 million total confirmed COVID-19 cases since the state reported its first known case March 4, 2020.
