The suspect used social media to recruit women and juveniles, federal authorities alleged.

pleaded not guilty Friday on charges of sex trafficking and prostitution-related offenses, including one count of sex trafficking of a minor, authorities announced.

Amin Sharif, 48, was charged in January 2022 with attempted transportation of a victim with intent to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking of a minor, use of an interstate facility to promote unlawful activity, transporting a victim with intent to engage in prostitution, and persuading a victim to travel to engage in prostitution, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release.

Law enforcement had been investigating Sharif since January 2021 for allegedly transporting and attempting to transport women and minors to New Jersey and elsewhere for the purpose of engaging in forced prostitution and other illicit conduct, the office said. Sharif allegedly used multiple social media services and profiles to target women and girls to engage in sex acts for money, according to authorities. He also allegedly used threats to coerce the victims to carry out the acts and advertised women and “at least one underage girl online for commercial sex acts.”

The indictment accuses Sharif of conduct related to four different victims, according to court documents. Our journalism needs your support. Please consider subscribing to
