PETALING JAYA: Did anyone lose a suitcase with over half a million ringgit inside?The peculiar discovery on March 20 in a shopping mall here has raised eyebrows in the police force.Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the cash was found in RM10, RM50 and RM100 denominations.“It contained cash exceeding RM500,000. The owner is still unknown,” he said at a press conference at the Subang Jaya police district headquarters yesterday.
“While we believe the money to be authentic bills, we will confirm it with Bank Negara.“There were no closed-circuit television cameras facing the area of where the bag was found.“However, there were CCTVs facing the entrance and the car park exit. We are inspecting these. “I urge anyone who has lost this huge amount of money to be present at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters or call the police at 03-7966 2222,” he said.He said no time frame has been set but urged the owner to come forward before the police initiate the process to deem it as unclaimed money.“While there is no time frame, the police will need to bring it to the attention of the public before we can bring this case to court and have it declared as unclaimed money.
