I don’t think you have to worry about your kids feeling like an afterthought. If your parents and siblings never pay them much attention, they won’t expect it—they won’t know what they’re missing. It’sfeelings that are at issue here. I’m sorry your parents pushed back against a baby shower for you, even if theythey were just being practical about the hand-me-downs. It wasn’t kind of them. A shower is as much about celebrating the impending birth as it is about gifts—or it should be.
But whether this is the case or it feels new to you, what do you have to lose in talking to them about how you feel? Are you afraid they’ll tell you you’re “too sensitive” or that you’re being dramatic? But if you don’t let them know that your feelings are hurt, they’ll never have the chance to make it up to you or do better in the future.them you felt hurt when they didn’t come to your shower.
