Morales looked at her divorce as an opportunity to set new goals. She set an ambitious milestone: the Marine Corps Marathon.
Still, she tries to plan her runs by looking at her schedule a week in advance, she says, to figure out which days she can only sneak a mile in and which are perfect for 20-plus-milers, toward her goal of running this year’s Marine Corps Marathon.
Most of all, Morales is now active in a local group that gives support and encouragement to runners at all fitness levels. “Running reminded me that I don’t have to ask for permission to accomplish anything I want,” she says. “I feel like I can take on the world.”From Memorial Day through the Fourth of July, you’ll run at least one mile, every day. Can you do more than one mile? Of course! But one is all you need to make it count.
