A Munster man is wanted for killing a woman last year, according to court records.
Malik L. Bunch, 25, of the 300 block of Belden Place, was charged Thursday with two counts of murder and one count of theft in the death of Je La Cooper, a.k.a. Jela Cooper, 25.Authorities believe she died sometime between March 26-28, 2022. It accuses Bunch of stealing her iPhone and jewelry.Little is known publicly about the circumstances of her death. Court documents do not include a probable cause affidavit, which details the information investigators gathered.
A spokeswoman for the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office declined comment and didn’t elaborate on why the case was brought before a grand jury. Records show the grand jury concluded there was enough evidence for charges sometime between June and September 2023.The murder case appears to have been investigated by Merrillville Police, who did not immediately respond to requests for further information.A GoFundMe after Cooper’s death described her as “kind”, “hard-working” with a “heart of gold”.
