Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says every tier of foreign workers will have a different levy.
PETALING JAYA: The joint committee of the home and human resources ministries today announced that the multi-tier levy system for foreign workers will begin on Jan 1 next year. Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the proposals for the quantum of levy have been included in the report by the Foreign Workers’ Management Independent Committee.
“We cannot disclose it now because the report must get approval from the Cabinet,” Bernama quoted him as saying after chairing a meeting of the committee with Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran here.Kulasegaran had previously said the proposed system, similar to Singapore’s model, would see employers determine the number of foreign workers they want to hire.
