PUTRAJAYA: No request has been made to the Federal Government to declassify the official report on the May 13, 1969 racial riots, says Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.He said the calls to declassify the report were only the personal views of certain people, adding that the government preferred not to dwell on the past.
“We have not received any request to that effect, it is just the views of some people. But that is in the past. The government prefers to look at the present and future.will ensure peace and harmony. We abhor any form of discrimination based on race and religion.
“We will learn from the past and make sure that Malaysia does not face the same problem in the future,” Muhyiddin told a press conference here yesterday.Muhyiddin was speaking at a ceremony to announce Datuk Mazlan Mansor as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Abdul Hamid said the matter of Special Branch officers being barred from Parti Warisan Sabah events should not be prolonged.“Whatever public event there is, it is the duty of the police to be present and ensure the orderly conduct and safety of the event.
