KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the Health Ministry not to rush into increasing rates at public health facilities such as hospitals and clinics.“It is stated in the White Paper, a large part of the country’s expenditure on healthcare is borne by the government.

“But I would like to caution against a hasty increase in healthcare fees at hospitals and government clinics because this will increase the burden on the people who are currently suffering due to the escalating cost of daily necessities, rising inflation, OPR , and recently, the increase in electricity tariffs,” Muhyiddin said during the debate on the Health White Paper.

He cited data from Merdeka Center that found that most Malaysians felt their financial position was worse this year than last, and the fact this sentiment was not confined to B40. In the White Paper, it said the low fees charged at public healthcare facilities were greatly appreciated by Malaysians as they could access the health system at an affordable price.
