Mt. Carmel holds on for victory over Valley Centert
The finishing touches were somewhat nerve-wracking for the home fans, but Mt. Carmel High was able to survive a war of attrition Friday night against Valley Center.
“We certainly made it interesting,” said Mt. Carmel second-year coach Drew Westling. “That last play, Josh was supposed to catch and run, and they ended up almost getting him. “We just had to get our chemistry going,” said Bell, a senior who completed 21-of-26 passes for 183 yards and one score. “Now we have a little roll going, so we need to keep up the momentum.”
A 16-yard pass from Bell to Michael Jones preceded a 28-yard TD run by Axel Enriquez as the defending Palomar League champions assumed a 26-7 lead with 3:02 left in the third period.
